The keys of an efficient malaria diagnostic are speed, accuracy and cost-efficiency.
With respect to RDT: xRapid is much more accurate than RDT. It is not only faster but also precisely establishes the parasitemia of the patient blood and identifies the species of Plasmodium involved.
With respect to microscopy: microscopy is considered as the gold standard for malaria diagnostic. xRapid is as accurate as microscopy but much faster.
An xRapid test can be run in less than 2 minutes compared to about 20-30 minutes for an experienced, trained microscopist. As a result, we have witnessed large gains of productivity among our users, irrespective of their training: higher throughput and the reduction of eye strain are immediate benefits. Our solution is also completely autonomous, and will go where an experienced microscopist may not be available: it is a perfect solution for field studies.
With respect to PCR, xRapid is cheaper, faster, and easier to use. In endemic regions those characteristics are key for efficiency.
